Biography

As an international performing pianist and composer, Antonio Truyols
has enraptured audiences across four continents at an incredibly young
age. His performance credits include a six-city tour of north-eastern
mainland China in 2012, including a residency at the Tianjin Grand
Theater as the debut jazz performance in Tianjin. He recently received
the Downbeat award for best jazz arrangement and was a semi-finalist in
the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition.

Unit Three, the
piano trio founded and led by Truyols was invited to compete in the
Bucharest International Jazz Competition in Romania. Competing against
groups from around the world, many 10 years their senior, Unit Three
received the prize of Best Band in the competition. Unit Three recently
debuted Soul Encounters: Flamenco Meets Jazz, a fusion project in
collaboration with Estela Velez and the D.C. based Furia Flamenca dance
company at the Atlas Theater in Washington D.C. and the Alden Theater in Virgina.
Truyols has performed at the French Embassy in Washinton D.C. with the
Imaginary Friends Ensemble, a chamber ensemble of which he is a
co-founder, consisting of piano, clarinet, and more recently the viola
and uilleann pipes. As a member of the Capital Focus Jazz Band,
Truyols has been well received at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in
California and the Ascona Traditional Jazz Festival in
Switzerland. Truyols has also arranged and recorded albums with
Lee Konitz, John Ellis, Donny McCaslin, and Joel Frahm. He currently resides in Greensboro, NC where he is
the music director at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and the jazz piano faculty at the Music Academy of North Carolina.

Unit Three

Unit
Three is a jazz piano trio that formed in 2008. This experienced group
consists of bassist Joseph Dickey and drummer Daniel Faust. Together
they have won national and international awards including the Downbeat
award for best jazz arrangement and Best Band in the Bucharest
International Jazz Competition. They perform extensively on the east
coast and have recorded with Joel Frahm, Lee Konitz, and John Ellis.
They have performed with Peter Bernstein, Delfeayo Marsalis and Marcus
Printup of the Lincon Center Jazz Orchestra. |
Imaginary Friends Ensemble

The
Imaginary Friends Ensemble is a Chamber ensemble consisting of piano
and clarinet. Leslie “Pinky’ Simmons, equally at home on both the
clarinet and saxophone, is a graduate of the New England and Boston
conservatories. Leslie has placed first in the Etude Music Club
competition and was a selected soloist for the Hadley Crawford Recital.
The ensemble works with vocalists, string players, and more recently
the uilleann pipes. IFE has performed at the French Embassy in
Washington D.C. as part of the annual Fête de la Musique celebration.
